POONCH: At least six persons were killed and three others injured after a vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in the Surankote area of Poonch district on Wednesday evening.
According to reports, the vehicle was travelling from Poonch towards Sheindhara when the accident occurred, resulting in the death of six occupants on the spot.
Officials said a rescue operation was launched immediately after information about the accident was received, and the injured were evacuated and shifted to hospital for treatment.
Chief Medical Officer, Poonch, Dr Pervez Khan said information about the accident was received through the Police Control Room, following which the 108 ambulance service, additional ambulances and other emergency resources were rushed to the site.
He said the bodies of six persons — four men and two women — were brought to the district hospital.
According to the CMO, the deceased were in the age group of 20 to 25 years.
The three injured persons are undergoing treatment, while further details regarding their condition and the exact cause of the accident are awaited.
Police and local authorities are examining the circumstances that led to the vehicle leaving the road and falling into the gorge.
