SRINAGAR: The ongoing 57-day Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra will remain suspended from both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes with effect from August 9 in view of track restoration works and forecast of adverse weather conditions, officials said on Saturday.
The annual pilgrimage commenced on July 3 simultaneously from the Chandanwari track in Anantnag district and the Baltal route in Ganderbal district and is scheduled to culminate with the Chadi Mubarak on August 28.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg said more than 4.8 lakh pilgrims have performed darshan at the Holy Shrine so far.
He said recent rains had necessitated repair and maintenance of vulnerable stretches of the Yatra tracks, and the restoration work was being undertaken by the Border Roads Organisation.
“In addition, adverse weather conditions have been predicted by the IMD over the next few days. Hence, the Yatra shall remain suspended from both routes with effect from August 9, 2026,” Garg said.
He added that the Chadi Mubarak would proceed via the traditional Pahalgam route and mark the culmination of the Yatra on August 28.
The Divisional Commissioner appealed to pilgrims to strictly adhere to advisories issued by the competent authorities from time to time in the interest of their safety and smooth conduct of the pilgrimage.
