Class 12 board examination marks may soon carry 50% weightage in determining the merit list for NEET and JEE admissions. The potential shift toward a 50-50 weightage split between board marks and entrance tests is part of a wider examination system overhaul. Key aspects of the proposed reforms include.
Board Weightage:
Transitioning from the current system—where board marks are merely an eligibility criterion—to comprising half of the final admission score.
Syllabus Alignment:
Aligning competitive entrance tests (NEET/JEE) more closely with school syllabi.
Exam Frequency & Format:
Introducing multiple attempts for entrance examinations, adaptive computer-based testing, and a shift toward hybrid-mode assessments.
While these recommendations mark one of the most significant proposed changes to India’s higher education admission process in decades, implementation faces logistical hurdles such as standardizing and normalizing marks across various state boards.The committee is expected to submit its final report to the government soon.
