Two separate road accidents involving Amarnath pilgrims in Jammu and Kashmir left a total of 10 devotees injured on Friday, rescue teams from CRPF 137 Baattalion JK Police and civil administration teams immediately launched rescue operations and shifted the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The first accident occurred at around 6:10 AM near Toldi Nallah, close to Chenani on National Highway-44 in Udhampur district. An Ertiga car (MH-13-ZY-2836) carrying pilgrims from Baikunthpur in Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh met with an accident while returning towards Jammu.
Five pilgrims sustained injuries in the mishap. They were identified as Seema Gupta, wife of Subhash Gupta; Subhash Gupta, son of Laxmi Chand; Rajeev Gupta, son of Jugal Kishore; Geeta Gupta, wife of Dalip Kumar; and Dalip Kumar, son of Jagdish Kumar.
Following the incident, personnel from the CRPF and local administration rushed to the spot and shifted all the injured to Government Medical College (GMC), Udhampur for treatment. Among the injured, Seema Gupta was reported to be in critical condition and was later referred to Government Medical College, Jammu for advanced medical care.
Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Minga Sherpa, DIG Udhampur-Reasi Range Shiv Kumar Sharma, and Additional Deputy Commissioner Prem Singh visited the hospital to review the treatment arrangements and meet the injured pilgrims. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also spoke with officials and directed that the injured be provided with the best possible medical care.
In another incident, a Tempo Traveller (JK-01-X-3118) carrying Amarnath pilgrims met with an accident near Jagti in the Nagrota area of Jammu. Five pilgrims from Kolkata, West Bengal, were injured in the accident.
The injured passengers were shifted to Government Medical College, Jammu, where doctors reported their condition to be stable, with only minor injuries sustained.
These two accidents during the ongoing Amarnath Yatra have raised concerns regarding road safety along the pilgrimage route. Authorities have appealed to all drivers and pilgrims to remain cautious and follow safety guidelines to ensure a safe and smooth journey.
